In recognition of today and the American celebration of Veterans Day, we’ve got a video of the daily flag retreat ceremony at Magic Kingdom. Seven days a week, a veteran is selected near the park entrance and invited to return with his or her family at 5 pm when the American flag on Main Street U.S.A. is lowered for the night.
The daily Magic Kingdom flag ceremony includes an honor guard of Walt Disney World Security Officers, The Main Street Philharmonic marching band, The Dapper Dans barbershop quarter (singing “God Bless America”), and announcements by The Mayor of Main Street. As the Philharmonic marches down Main Street to John Philip Souza’s “The Liberty Bell,” the day’s honored veteran carries the folded flag. At the ceremony’s conclusion, the veteran is given a certificate and a special Disney Parks pin.
